Light Requirements

Bright to moderate indirect light is ideal. Calatheas are one of the better houseplants for lower light conditions, making them great for UK homes. Avoid direct sunlight, which can fade and scorch the delicate foliage.

Watering

Keep the compost lightly moist at all times but never waterlogged. Allow the top layer to dry slightly between waterings. Calatheas are sensitive to water quality — rainwater, filtered water, or tap water left to stand overnight works best to prevent leaf discolouration.

Humidity and Temperature

Prefers higher humidity and stable warm temperatures between 16–24°C. Protect from cold draughts. A bathroom or kitchen with good light is ideal, or use a humidity tray to boost moisture levels.
