Labisia Obtusifolia - Turtle Back

Labisia obtusifolia is a rare and unusual foliage plant admired for its bold, glossy leaves and deep green colouring. The broad, slightly leathery leaves grow in a neat rosette form, giving the plant a lush, tropical look. Its strong texture and compact habit make it a striking addition to any plant collection, particularly for those who enjoy unique and uncommon varieties.

Care Instructions:

  • Light Conditions☀️
Place your plant in a spot with low to medium, indirect light.
Avoid direct sunlight as this can scorch its leaves.
A north or east-facing window is often a good choice.
Rotate the plant regularly to ensure all sides receive equal light and prevent it from leaning towards the light source.
  • Watering💧
These plants prefer their soil to be consistently moist but they are very sensitive to overwatering.
Water thoroughly when the top inch of the soil feels dry to the touch.
Slightly reduce your watering in the winter.
Always allow any excess water to drain away.
  • Humidity💦
High humidity is crucial for this plant.
If you need to increase your humidity levels you can use a humidifier or you could consider regularly misting your plant if the indoor air is dry.
You can also place your plant on a tray of pebbles and water to increase the humidity levels.
  • Temperature🌡️
Maintain a stable temperature between 18-27°C during the growing season (spring and summer).
Avoid cold draughts, air conditioners or heaters as this plant is sensitive to temperature fluctuations.
  • Fertilising🌱
Fertilise monthly with a balanced houseplant fertiliser during the spring and summer.
Stop fertilising during the winter months when growth slows.
  • Additional Care➕
Wipe leaves occasionally with a damp cloth to remove dust and improve photosynthesis.
Repot every 1-2 years in well-draining soil to accommodate growth and refresh nutrients.
Remove any old, yellowing, or damaged fronds at the crown of the plant using clean, sharp tools.
