Sempervivum - Houseleek

Sempervivum, commonly known as “Houseleeks,” is a hardy succulent with tightly packed rosettes of fleshy leaves that come in shades of green, red, or purple. Perfect for rockeries, pots, or small indoor arrangements, it’s low-maintenance, drought-tolerant, and adds a charming, architectural touch to any space. Its offsetting growth habit creates a lovely cascading effect as the plant multiplies.

Provided in 9cm pots.

Please note: These plants are pet safe.

Care Instructions:

  • Light Conditions☀️
Sempervivums can be grown indoors or outdoors in the UK. They prefer bright direct light as their leaves can become sparse and the colours will fade without it.
If they are going to be grown outdoors then make sure they receive at least six hours a day where possible. Rotate the plant regularly to ensure all sides receive equal light and prevent it from leaning towards the light source.
  • Watering💧
Sempervivums are drought tolerant and dislike sitting in waterlogged soil, which can cause root rot.
Let the soil dry out completely between waterings and give them a generous deep soaking once in a while with frequent, light waterings. Reduce watering in the winter when the plant is dormant. If placing outdoor they will typically not require any extra water.
Allow any excess water to drain away.
  • Humidity💦
These plants thrive in low humidity. Avoid misting, which can cause fungal problems, and ensure good air circulation
  • Temperature🌡️
Sempervivums can tolerate very low temperatures down to -34°C.
Avoid cold draughts, air conditioners or heaters as this plant is sensitive to temperature fluctuations.
  • Fertilising🌱
Feed sparingly, apply a balanced liquid fertiliser once or twice during the summer. Do not feed in winter.
  • Additional Care➕
Wipe leaves occasionally with a damp cloth to remove dust and improve photosynthesis.
Repot every 2-3 years, or when root bound, in well-draining soil to accommodate growth and refresh nutrients.
Remove any dead, yellowing, or damaged leaves with clean tools to maintain a tidy appearance and encourage healthier growth.
